Laptop screen compatibility: reading a panel part number

Two 15.6-inch laptop screens can look identical and still not fit the same machine. The panel's part number, printed on a label on the back, is the reliable way to match a replacement.

Resolution

HD (1366×768) and Full HD (1920×1080) panels are often both used for one laptop model. Replacing like for like avoids a blurry picture or a panel that won't display at all.

Connector

Most modern panels use a 30-pin or 40-pin eDP connector. 40-pin connectors often mean a higher refresh rate or touch support. The pin count must match the cable.

Mounting

Panels mount with top-and-bottom brackets, side brackets or no brackets (glued in). Check the mounting type before you order.
